Questions About Hope, Herb & Oil
We love hearing from our customers! Here are answers to the questions we're asked most often. If you don't see what you're looking for, send us a message—we're always happy to help.
About Our Products & Philosophy
What makes Hope, Herb & Oil different?
We blend Appalachian herbal traditions with faith-inspired aromatherapy. Every product is handcrafted in small batches using therapeutic-grade essential oils and pure botanicals. Our collections—like Scripture & Scent and the Hope Collection—reflect our belief that wellness is holistic: body, mind, and spirit.
What does "therapeutic-grade" actually mean?
It means we use pure, high-quality essential oils without synthetic additives, fillers, or chemical extenders. We source from trusted suppliers who prioritize purity and potency. Our suppliers use third party GCMS testing to ensure the best quality. You're getting the real plant essence, not a watered-down version.
Can you explain your different collections?
Absolutely!
• Aromas of Grace is our signature hub featuring three sub-collections: Appalachian (mountain-inspired blends like Blue Ridge Invigorate), Hope (uplifting, faith-centered oils), and Scripture & Scent (biblical aromatherapy like Anointing and Garden of Gethsemane).
• Remedy and Root focuses on therapeutic support—think Breathe Easy for congestion, Muscle Ease for sore muscles, and Deep Sleep for restful nights.
• Balms & Salves are topical skin care products for healing and protection.
• Tinctures & Tonics are herbal extracts you take internally for immune support, digestion, energy, and more.
How to Use Our Products
I'm new to essential oils. Where do I start?
Start with a diffuser and one of our gentler blends like New River Calm or Hope's Blossom. Add 4-5 drops to your diffuser and enjoy the aroma. Once you're comfortable, you can explore topical use (always diluted!) or try our ready-to-use balms.
How do I dilute essential oils for skin use?
Mix 5-10 drops of essential oil per ounce (about 2 tablespoons) of carrier oil like jojoba, sweet almond, or fractionated coconut oil. For children or sensitive skin, use even less—2-3 drops per ounce. Always test a small area first.
Can I ingest your essential oils?
No. Our essential oil blends are for external use only—diffusion, topical application (diluted), or inhalation. If you're looking for internal herbal support, check out our Tinctures & Tonics collection instead.
How do I use tinctures?
Tinctures are concentrated herbal extracts. Follow the dosage on the label (usually 1-2 dropperfuls in water or juice, 1-3 times daily). Take them consistently for best results, and consult a healthcare provider if you're on medication.
Safety & Suitability
Are your products safe during pregnancy?
Some are, some aren't. Essential oils like peppermint, rosemary, and clary sage should generally be avoided during pregnancy. We recommend consulting your midwife or doctor before using any of our products if you're expecting or nursing.
Can I use these on my kids?
For children over 10, most of our products are fine when properly diluted. For younger children, extra caution is needed—some oils aren't safe for little ones. Reach out and we'll guide you toward child-safe options.
I have sensitive skin. Will these irritate me?
Possibly, depending on your sensitivities. Always do a patch test: apply a small amount of diluted product to your inner forearm and wait 24 hours. If redness or itching occurs, discontinue use. Our balms and salves tend to be gentler than pure essential oils.
Are your products safe for pets?
Many essential oils are toxic to cats and some are harmful to dogs. If you have pets, diffuse oils in well-ventilated areas and never apply them to your pet's skin. Store all products securely out of paw's reach.
Ordering & Shipping
How quickly will my order ship?
Because we handcraft everything in small batches, please allow 3-5 business days for us to prepare your order. Once it ships, delivery typically takes 3-7 business days depending on your location.
Do you ship outside the United States?
Currently, we ship within the U.S. only. We hope to expand internationally in the future.
What if I'm not satisfied with my purchase?
We want you to love what you receive. If something isn't right, contact us within 14 days of delivery and we'll work with you to make it right—whether that's a replacement, exchange, or refund.
Product Care
How should I store my essential oils?
Keep them in a cool, dark place away from sunlight and heat. Amber or cobalt glass bottles (like ours) help protect the oils. Tightly close caps after each use. Stored properly, most oils last 2-3 years; citrus oils are best used within 1-2 years.
Do your balms and tinctures expire?
Yes. Balms and salves are best used within 1-2 years. Tinctures have a longer shelf life—typically 3-5 years. Check product labels for specific guidance.
Ingredients & Sourcing
Where do your ingredients come from?
We source therapeutic-grade essential oils and dried herbs from reputable suppliers who share our values around quality and sustainability. Whenever possible, we choose organic and wildcrafted botanicals.
Are your products vegan?
Most are, but some balms and salves may contain beeswax. Check individual product descriptions, or contact us if you need vegan-only options.
Do you use any synthetic fragrances or additives?
Never. What you smell is pure plant essence. What you see on the ingredient list is exactly what's in the bottle.
